Improving Digestion, Building Immunity

We should know the importance of good digestive function. And we should also be highly aware of how vital immune function is. What may be a lesser-known fact is the relationship between digestive health and immune function. The immune system is bolstered by the strength of digestive function- and so gut health is crucial to both improved digestion and building immunity.

It all starts in the gut

Here’s a little info on the connection between digestion and better immunity! It all starts in the gut. The gut is commonly thought of as your “second brain”.

  • The lining of the gut acts as a filter. It filters nutrients from the food we eat into the bloodstream.

  • The undigested toxins and particles are prevented from entering the bloodstream- providing that the gut lining (also known as the gut wall) is strong enough to perform this duty!

  • The problem occurs when the gut wall is damaged or impaired in some way. This means that all the “baddies” such as undigested foods and toxins enter your bloodstream and send signals to the immune system. This is known as “leaky gut”.

  • This alert from the gut to the immune system causes a reaction. If the gut is constantly alerting the immune system, this in effect weakens immune function.

Put simply, if your body cannot digest or break down the food you eat it can cause a major upset to your health! As digestion and immunity are so inextricably linked, it is certain that by strengthening one, you improve the other.

If your body cannot absorb the nutrients from food or dispel toxins, this can bring on numerous digestive issues such as bloating, IBS, diarrhea, food sensitivities, and intolerances. That being said, there are ways and means to improve digestive function.

Here are a few things you can do!

  • Improve fiber intake.

  • Cut back on refined sugars and carbohydrates.

  • Reduce your intake of processed and packaged foods.

  • Increase the amount of real or whole foods that you eat. Aim to eat food in its most natural state- think…fruit and vegetables, nuts and seeds, beans and pulses!

  • Add more fermented foods to your diet. Fermented foods improve your gut bacteria. Include probiotics and prebiotics. Probiotics and prebiotics work together to improve your gut flora. Probiotics increase the number of good bacteria in your gut, and prebiotics help to feed the friendly bacteria.

Here’s how their products can help you toward improved health and wellbeing!

Digestive Enzymes

Many people suffer from digestive issues (60-70 million according to NIH) after eating a meal. As we age, our bodies often need additional support for the proper digestion of foods.

Situations such as a long-term illness, gallbladder removal, antacid overuse, and stomach diseases such as (IBS) can reduce the number of enzymes created by the stomach. Added to this, the reduction of pancreatic enzymes and bile can lead to various symptoms of gastrointestinal discomfort.

Digestion problems can range in symptoms from uncomfortable to downright painful! This supplement was formulated to ease digestive pain and discomfort.

Digestive Enzymes is a comprehensive enzyme blend. It is specifically designed to help break down the widest range of foods, especially proteins, fats, and carbohydrates, and promotes healthy digestion and maximum nutrient absorption.

There are several types of enzymes that target different nutrients, for example:

  • Amylase breaks down carbs and starches

  • Protease works on proteins

  • Lactase breaks down dairy

  • Lipase handles fats

Digestive Enzymes’ proprietary blend of enzymes and peppermint leaf helps digest protein, carbs, fiber, lactose, and fats, and may amplify nutrient absorption while reducing bloating, gas, and abdominal pain.

Psyllium Plus

BioActive Nutrient’s proprietary Psyllium Plus blend is a gentle, soothing source of soluble fiber.

The capsules are an easy, convenient way to get extra fiber without the fuss of powder and naturally support regularity; it is a natural digestive aid.

  • The soluble fiber found in psyllium husks can help lower cholesterol.

  • Psyllium can help relieve both constipation and diarrhea and is used to treat irritable bowel syndrome, hemorrhoids, and other intestinal problems.

  • Psyllium has also been used to help regulate blood sugar levels in people with Diabetes.

Psyllium is a form of fiber, a prebiotic, and a bulk-forming laxative that soaks up water in your gut and makes bowel movements much easier, and can help promote regularity without increasing flatulence. Psyllium Hull can be used as needed to ease constipation, or you can add it to your diet to help promote regularity and overall digestive health.

“Our proprietary blend also includes Slippery Elm Bark, an herbal remedy used for soothing the pain of acid reflux, sore throat, and indigestion; Aloe Ferox Powder, used for centuries for its laxative, anti-inflammatory, wound and burn healing activities; Chlorella, nutritious algae that may help with detoxification; and Ginger Root, well-known as an herb that may reduce nausea and inflammation”- Bioactive Nutrients
