New Year, New You, New Sleep Quality!

The countdown hits zero, fireworks go off, and we all scream HAPPY NEW YEAR! Another lap around the sun, another long year in the books, and another year of promise and opportunity ahead of us. We all make our New Year’s resolutions, wishing to get our lives on track one way or another. Many of us will put our thoughts into action right away (gym membership sales always skyrocket right at the start of a new year), but others will struggle to commit to making the changes they have promised themselves.

The unfortunate reality for many of us is that New Year’s resolutions just end up being another item (or several items) to add to our “to do” list or our “wish” list. Life for most of us, even with all of its problems, and all of the things we know we can improve on, is somehow familiar and comfortable. Change, even positive change, can feel like a disruption to our state of stability that we’re not always ready to face. So, we often wish for things but then seem to convince ourselves that they are unattainable.

For instance, if you’re one of the 84 million Americans who struggle getting enough sleep and you’re reading this, it's very likely you’ve set a goal for this year to improve your sleep habits. However, this can easily feel out of reach since it is a little more complicated than putting ourselves to bed earlier or getting in more hours of shut eye. When it comes to sleep, quality is just as important as quantity. The answers aren’t always clear, and we may need to do a little digging, but in the end it will all be worth it.

Making a New Year’s resolution, setting a goal, and determining what to stive for, are all an amazing first step! However, where we get lost sometimes is that once we have set our intention, we must take action to achieve what we have been dreaming of! Improving your sleep is an excellent resolution because doing so can improve your health, wellness, energy, motivation, and mood, just to name a few of the wonderful benefits. These improvements can in turn propel you into chasing the life you have always wanted for yourself, or even just finding more joy in the beautiful life you have already created. So, if you are ready, please allow us to suggest an easy step you can take tomorrow—no hesitation, little cost, and nothing but improvements to your comfort and routine.

Better Sleeping Position, Better Sleep

We spend (or should spend) about one-third of our lives sleeping. That might seem crazy to think about, but it’s very true. While we often look at improving sleep as meaning getting more sleep, what’s equally important is getting the right sleep. But what does that mean, and how can we achieve it?

What is the best sleep position? What’s the right way to sleep? We get those questions all the time! And this might sound cliché, but the answer is fairly simple. The best sleeping position is one that works for you, and that your body finds comfortable. There’s no one size fits all answer; some of us are side-sleepers, others are back-sleepers, and there are also those who prefer to sleep on their stomach.

All this being said, if you’re struggling to sleep, stirring a lot throughout the night, or waking up with a stiff neck or back, it’s safe to say that regardless of your sleep position, the surface you are sleeping on is not supporting your body properly. Often, we blame our bodies, but in the end our body is just trying to search for comfort by looking for ways to adapt to our sleep surface.

If you go to bed at a reasonable time with no distractions, and you don’t have any specific health problems or injuries that may affect your sleep, there’s no reason why you should toss and turn throughout the night and not wake up feeling fresh and full of energy. If that’s not the case, there’s likely something that can be improved in the time between when you doze off and when you wake up.

And this is more common than you might like to think. Despite the incredible advancements in sleep-related technology over recent years and decades, from sleep-tracking smartwatches to the gazillions of apps popping up on your Instagram feed promising improved sleep habits, the actual technology that supports us as we sleep is really no different from what it was 200 years ago. That is, your bed, pillow, and blanket.

We live in a world with constant blue light from smartphones and big-screen TVs, endless caffeine addictions, and stressful workdays keeping us up all night. With all the distractions and dopamine triggers in the world we live in, allowing our body to be fully and comfortably at rest during the precious hours when we disconnect from the world’s vices is more important than ever.

There have been many technological advances in the sleep industry, but the trick is to find which ones actually work and make a real difference for you. Educating yourself about the science of sleep and becoming more aware of your needs will lead you in the right direction. There is a lot of marketing out there, a lot of gimmicks, and so many false claims to weed through. It is best to lean on the experts in the field, those who have the background, experience, knowledge, and expertise to create products that will make a tremendous and tangible positive impact on your comfort. It is even better to trust in those you seem to have a singular focus on and passion for improving sleep. There is one family business in particular that we have found to have all of those qualities, and they have spent years developing a pillow that would provide the comfort and support they knew their customers desperately needed. This small Southern California business went from designing this perfect pillow to building their own local factory so that they could ensure it would always made to their highest standards of quality. The owners, with their loyalty and dedication to their customers, are moving technology forward in their industry to bring you better sleep, sweeter dreams, and the improved quality of life you deserve.

Simple Change, Better Sleep, Better Life

We’re not going to beat around the bush here. If you’re struggling with sleep, or just generally feel like you aren’t getting enough solid shuteye at night, it’s time to take some action now.

Poor sleeping habits can lead to adverse mental and physical health effects far beyond what you might expect. If you’re reading this, you’re probably used to the feeling of fatigue throughout the day and the increased levels of stress, anxiety, and emotional mood swings that often come with it. But you might not be aware that long-term struggles with sleep have been linked to more serious mental health conditions, such as depression, erratic behavior, and even increased suicide risk. Taking a small step towards improving your sleep can really resolve a lot of the ailments you might be battling throughout the day.

When it comes to physical health, some may wonder if not sleeping can make you sick. And well, the short answer is that it absolutely can. A fatigued body means a fatigued immune system, so the more tired you are, the more susceptible you are to getting sick. When you are well rested, not only does your body more effectively fight off illnesses, but if you do become sick, your recovery time is definitely better.

Your body desperately needs restorative sleep in order to optimize your physical and mental health. Also, it is called beauty sleep for a reason. Getting the proper rest will improve your skin and hair, helping you hold on to that youthful glow. With solid sleep, your heart will beat stronger, your lungs will be more powerful, and your digestive system will do its job much more efficiently.

The best resolution that you can make this New Year is to invest in your health and well-being and improve your quality of life. Sleep is the best place to start, and all it takes is to purchase a pillow designed to give you the ultimate comfort and support that you need. That is exactly what you can expect for the Scrumptious Side Pillow!
