Wellness Wonders

Wellness wonders include many things. They are the nutrition that we consume, the exercise we participate in, the drinks that keep us hydrated, and the sleep time which rejuvenates us each evening. When you think about it, these are the basics; it’s everything else we do on top of the basics that can be a great wellness wonder for our body. This may include health supplements, skincare, and beauty products that add the extra we need to stay super well.

As we move into spring, it is an ideal time to dust off your old health and wellbeing regimen in favor of something new, fresh, and perhaps even better!

Here are some wellness wonders to consider!

  • Fresh foods! Never underestimate the positive effects of fresh food on your body. Bear in mind, most supermarket and shop-bought foods go through a substantial transit process before they are even stored in supermarket aisles and shelves. As the weather improves, try to explore a little more and head to your nearest local food market. You’d be surprised at how good fresh food tastes, and of course, the nutrient value is likely to be far higher also.

  • Greens! Dark, leafy greens are super-high in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Add them into a freshly-made smoothie if you aren’t keen on the taste or add them into a salad. Perfect for a spring day to help replenish you.

  • Water. We often don’t think of water as a wellness wonder but the fact is: you cannot survive without it! Your body can go without food for longer than it can be denied water. If you want to try new things with your water intake, try infusing some fruit- strawberries and cucumbers can be extremely refreshing and vitamin-enriched also! Create your very own vitamin water!

These are just a few ideas for you. There are many ways that you can freshen up your health and fitness routine. Anything that you do that is predominantly for your better health is always worthwhile- no matter how big or little, it all counts toward an improved wellness regimen! It’s time to be proactive about your health, and ProHealth can help you!

ProHealth was founded in 1988 by Rich Carson, an ambitious young man who suddenly found himself disabled due to a devastating neuroimmune disease. It was his quest for effective treatments for his illness that led Rich to start ProHealth as a way to give other patients access to the supplements that had proved most beneficial to him and others with similar chronic illnesses.

From the very beginning, Rich insisted that he would only offer the purest, highest quality supplements available. As a result, ProHealth soon became one of the most trusted brands in the supplement industry. ProHealth is currently celebrating 33 consecutive years as a Better Business Bureau A+ rated company.

My philosophy about healthcare is that our illness doesn’t define us, we define it. Lifestyle, diet, physical movement, and supplements give us strength to endure, and I don’t think of it as treating my disease, I think of it as treating my body so that it can treat the disease itself. And stay informed about the latest news and research is empowering for patients and gives them hope and a sense of mastery over their disease.”- Rich, Pro Health

Here is a peek at two of their health supplements, Vitamin D3 and Green Tea Extreme

Vitamin D3 – 5,000 IU

Vitamin D is an important player in your body’s immune system, helping modulate both your innate and adaptive immune responses.

  • The innate immune response is your body’s first line of defense. It detects all foreign invaders such as viruses, bacteria, parasites, and toxins, activating cells to attack and destroy the intruders.

  • The adaptive immune response is your body’s second line of defense. Triggered by the innate immune cells, the adaptive cells recognize the specific invader then multiply to fight it off and provide protection against its return.

Remarkably, in addition to activating immune cells to combat invaders, vitamin D also has been found to help regulate those cells and prevent them from becoming overactive and attacking healthy tissue, such as in the case of autoimmune disorders.

Some additional evidence of vitamin D's ability to support the Immune System includes:

  • An article in the August 2011 issue of the Journal of Investigative Medicine, reported that a vitamin D deficiency is associated with increased susceptibility to infection.

  • In 2009, the National Institutes of Health warned that low vitamin D levels were associated with colds and flu, noting that “vitamin D may play a role in helping the immune system ward off respiratory diseases like the common cold.”

  • Vitamin D has been shown to enhance the expression of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2). A 2006 study found that increasing ACE2 activity may help protect against acute lung injury.

ProHealth offers vitamin D3 in 1,000 IU, 5,000 IU, and 50,000 IU doses.

Green Tea EGCG Extreme

Green tea contains high concentrations of polyphenols, called catechins, which have potent antioxidant properties. Antioxidants are essential to good health because they neutralize free radicals; these are harmful molecules that damage our cells and DNA and increase vulnerability to numerous illnesses including heart disease and cancer.

Although there are six primary catechin compounds in green tea, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is the most active and also the most studied.

  • It is 100 times more effective in neutralizing free radicals than vitamin C and 25 times more powerful than vitamin E.

  • There are hundreds of studies evaluating the benefits of consuming green tea for just about any health issue you can imagine – from asthma to diabetes and from dental cavities to the common cold.

  • Some of the most notable green tea benefits have been found in the areas of cardiovascular health, cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, and cognitive functioning.

Green Tea and Weight Management

Weight loss is another important finding from green tea research. Multiple studies have been published showing that regular consumption of green tea - or supplements containing the catechins extracted from green tea - may influence energy metabolism, body weight, and body fat contentResearch into how the catechins, particularly EGCG, found in green tea benefits weight loss and fat distribution has been conducted in vitro (test tubes), using mice, and finally in clinical trials with humans.

All three research techniques have produced results indicating that high doses of catechins can be effective for:

  • Promoting weight loss

  • Reducing waist circumference

  • Improving energy metabolism

  • Decreasing intra-abdominal fat

  • Supporting maintenance of lost weight

Additionally, ProHealth’s Green Tea EGCG Extreme is 99.6% caffeine-free.
