3 Steps to Get Set for Spring

Print
1 2 3

Can you believe we are already in March of 2022?! It seems like only yesterday we were ringing in the New Year. Time passes quickly and we need to get the most from it, little by little and day by day!

When we look after ourselves well, we are far better equipped to deal with the lows and fully embrace all the highs. As spring season edges in, it can almost be seen as a restart. Spring is a time of new beginnings so if you haven’t got up to mark with your health goals, start now!

Through winter you may have suffered from cold bugs and viruses or felt below par. Winter is not really a high-energy season, but now that it is drifting away, we can embrace spring and feel better within ourselves.

So, to help you, here are 3 steps to help you get set for spring!

  1. Find a new challenge. The body needs a certain amount of challenge in order to get fitter and stronger. If you have been doing the same thing for a while and it has become easier, then it is time to switch things up a bit! Doing new things creates new neural pathways, uses different muscles and movements at your joints and challenges your heart and lungs. If your workout regimen has become monotonous try adding new things such as new exercises that challenge you, increasing your weight-bearing load, or even just adding a few more minutes onto your workout regimen. You will feel the difference and once you feel the difference then you shall receive the benefits!

  2. Adjust your eating habits and nutrition. Winter is a time for warmth and comfort foods. As we head into spring, it is a great time to take a look around for fresh, seasonal veg, adjust your portion sizes (we tend to eat bigger portions through winter!), and drink more water! We lean toward hot beverages in winters such as tea, coffee, and hot chocolate, but as spring arrives we may crave more refreshing fluids and there is no substitute for water!

  3. Look at your supplements! We can get too comfortable with the same supplements on a daily basis, but as seasons change, so does what your body may need to keep it well. Over winter you may have increased your vitamin C and D supplementation to help protect you from winter colds and bugs. As we head into spring you can perhaps introduce more supplements that can boost your energy and mental focus or improve your circulation or heart health.
