Steps to a Healthy Heart

Your heart is precious, for many reasons, and many things can affect your heart health. This includes your daily health habits as well as the deeper aspects of being, such as your emotional and mental health. All have an undeniable impact on your heart health.

As the #1 killer worldwide, heart disease is not a topic to be ignored or postponed until there’s a problem. Many of us know a family member or loved one who suffers from a heart-related condition, and especially as we age, may wonder about our own risk factors. And it’s not all about genetics. When you modify your lifestyle and health behaviors, you create a better outlook for your heart health. So, the important thing is to start and to start now!

As February is a month where we focus on heart health as a nation, here are 4 steps to a healthy heart!

  • An active body builds a stronger heart. There is no denying the wonders of exercise to improve cardiovascular function. Any activity that raises your heart rate and warms up your body temperature is beneficial, so you don’t need to knock yourself out at the gym six days a week to benefit from exercise. If you are new to exercise, don’t feel intimidated. Start small, such as with a walk or gentle swim. Ideally, you should aim to gradually build on the activity, aiming for at least 20-30 minutes per day at least a few times a week. Invest in a smartwatch to help you keep track of your daily steps – you’d be surprised at how much you move throughout the day – especially if you have a fairly active job!

  • Pay attention to your blood pressure and your resting heart rate. If you have issues with blood pressure, suffer from stress, or have a history of high blood pressure in your family, it helps to keep a check on your blood pressure. Ideal blood pressure is around 120/80, and a healthy resting heart rate for an adult is normally between 60-80 beats per minute (bpm). People who are fitter may have a much lower resting heart rate – in some cases around 50-60 bpm. If your resting heart rate is well out of the 60-80 bpm range, speak to your health practitioner for ways in which you can improve it. Stress is actually one of the main causes of high blood pressure, so keep your stress in check as much as you can!

  • Eat heart-healthy foods! Many foods are truly great for your heart, including Omega 3-rich fatty fish such as tuna, mackerel, and salmon; green, leafy vegetables; walnuts; berries; beans and pulses; avocados; and dark chocolate too! Just as there are foods that promote a healthy heart, there are foods that can increase risk factors and should be limited or avoided. They include salt, refined sugar and carbohydrates, and unhealthy fats, all of which are found in processed foods and meats.

  • Minimize stress. As mentioned earlier, stress puts a big strain on your heart health. And if you tend to suffer from chronic stress, it is likely that your eating habits will not be very healthy either as stress can heavily affect food choices, volume, and appetite. Look after your emotional and mental wellbeing through self-care techniques, exercise, and ensuring you have enough daily rest.

The heart is a muscle. And so the more you can commit to strengthening it, the more it can support you. Look at your daily behaviors around exercise, rest, and food and start making some small changes - your heart will thank you!

Everyone can use a boost. So Body Kitchen has created a whole kitchen (as it were!) of nutritional products to support your health – including your heart health. They believe that the health supplements you take as part of your daily wellness regimen should be as clean and natural as the food on your plate.

This ethos underscores every Body Kitchen product – from sourcing the best quality ingredients to preserving the highest nutritional potency – because Body Kitchen knows this is what truly matters.

Here are two of Body Kitchen’s supplements that can help improve your heart health: Mega NAC + Quercetin, and Plant-Based Vitamin D +  K2.

MEGA NAC + QUERCETIN

There are many benefits to this product. For starters, this supplement offers a powerful cellular detox. It helps trap and flush out harmful toxins and impurities from the body and supports the liver’s natural cleansing process. And this is so important in helping your body clean out internal and external pollutants that can wreak havoc on your health. As we know, toxins create inflammation within the body – and it is up to us to minimize the effect!

Body Kitchen’s Mega NAC + Quercetin offers a clinically effective dose. It delivers 600 mg of high-quality N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC), the precursor to L-glutathione (called the body’s “master antioxidant”), at the daily dose shown to work in clinical studies.

Here are some additional benefits!

  • Supports clear breathing: Promotes optimal lung and respiratory function while supporting a healthy response to inflammation.

  • Neutralizes free radicals: A potent combination of NAC boosts production of age-fighting glutathione, plus an added 600 mg of the flavonoid Quercetin combats cell oxidation and supports a healthy immune system.

  • Increases nutrient absorption: Features a patented form of Black Pepper Extract, clinically shown to increase nutrient absorption and bioavailability by at least 30%.

This product is vegan, gluten-free and proudly made in the USA by Body Kitchen!

VITAMIN D + K2

Vitamins D and K play important roles when it comes to bone strength and maintaining healthy heart function. From supporting calcium construction to removing levels of inactive osteocalcin,  Vitamin D + K2contains clean and specialized forms of these important vitamins.

“Some ingredients are symbiotic—they’re better together. Vitamin D is the star ingredient and vitamin K2 plays a supporting role in ensuring the star can do its job effectively. Together, they improve how your body absorbs, uses and benefits from them”- Body Kitchen

How vitamins D and K2 work as a team

The combination of vitamins D and K2 helps the body metabolize calcium more effectively and directs calcium to where it is needed – especially to bones. They work together to support the body’s ability to improve absorption and meet bones and muscles’ demands for vitamin D.

Your heart may also stand to benefit, because vitamin D is involved in supporting normal blood pressure levels. Studies also show it has a positive effect on mental wellbeing and the immune system.

True to their roots, Body Kitchen created plant-based Vitamin D + K2.To enhance benefits of the “sunshine vitamin”, it features a patented flower extract that delivers the best available form of vitamin K, K2 MK-7, which has been clinically shown to remain biologically active in the body longer and allows for better bodily distribution.

Here are the main highlights of Vitamin D + K2:

  • Enhances bone strength and density, and supports the distribution of calcium in the body

  • Supports cardiovascular and immune system health

  • Promotes healthy mood and cognition

  • Offers a high potency 5,000 IU serving of vitamin D & 180 mcg of vitamin K2

Body Kitchen’s Vitamin D and K2 is plant-sourced, high absorption, non-GMO, and, of course, proudly made in the USA by Body Kitchen!

“We are pure, edible wellness, combining the goodness of the kitchen with breakthroughs in cellular science.
