Summer seems to have passed us by like a breeze. As we turn toward autumn and winter, it is an ideal time to reflect upon our health and review our goals to maintain progression or re-start a lagging health regimen. 

 

 

Wherever you are in terms of your health and wellbeing, each turn of the season is a good time to make changes. Our body generally takes 6-8 weeks to adapt or respond to what we do so if you haven’t already updated your health perspectives and actions, the time to do so is now! 

 

Elevating your health

Elevating your health comes about in numerous ways. You may need to up your fitness game with more exercise or a heightened intensity of exercise, after around 6-8 weeks or so, you may have reached a plateau and the only way to get things moving again is to switch things up! 

In terms of exercise, you can do this by introducing something new to your activity plan. Here are some ideas! 

  • If you normally always run, try introducing some biking instead or hill climbing. Different types of exercise freshly work your body and you’ll end up using muscles you never knew you had. 

  • If you normally exercise formally 2-3 times per week, try adding in another quick session, even an additional 20 minutes pay off in the long run.

  • Increase the intensity of what you do. You can up your fitness game by increasing the level at which your body is working so that it feels like more of a challenge. Muscles require an “overload” to grow so you could try raising your weight-bearing activity through small increments. 

 

Food plays a massive role in improving your health, and alongside formal exercise, it is the one thing many of us struggle with. It’s not an easy task for us because modern living has impacted how we plan, prepare, and eat our meals. We tend to snack a lot more nowadays and although snacks have a place as part of our nutritional overview, our meals should not be based around our snacks. Our snacks should be based on our meals. Here are some tips for you! 

  • Try to space your meals out through the day. If you tend to like larger meals, aim for 3 square meals a day with a couple of healthy snacks in between. If you tend to be more of a picker, aim for 5 smaller meals a day with a couple of nutritious snacks in between. 

  • Make the most out of fresh fruit and veg. Always aim to include a proper portion of each meal. If you find this tricky, think about preparing a fresh fruit and veg smoothie to help you. Fruit and vegetables contain crucial vitamins and minerals for your well-being. Don’t skimp on them! Frozen fruit and veg still maintain a lot of their nutritional value too. 

  • Stay hydrated. Water is vital for all metabolic processes and bodily functions. As we head into autumn and winter and we drink more hot beverages such as tea, it is important to ensure that you are still drinking water- try to include some herbal tea infusions.
