Are you confused or uncertain as to what your body needs to keep well? Read on for some help!  Vitamins and minerals work at a fundamental level to keep us well, balanced and protected. There are many vitamins and minerals and so it’s easy to get confused and maybe miss out on something really important to your wellbeing.

All vitamins and minerals are important in their own right; however, some crucial ones can help you to keep well, especially as seasons change from warm to cold.

It’s important to note that some vitamins and minerals are not stored by the body. Some vitamins are fat-soluble and others are water-soluble- meaning that you need a daily dose to keep levels at an optimum. Also, vitamins and minerals work together. For instance, Vitamin C can aid in the absorption of iron. Vitamins B and C help to protect your immune function as they both help in the formation of red and white blood cells.

The aim is to simply find balance. Here are 5 Vitamins/Minerals crucial for your wellness!

  1. Vitamins A. Vitamin A is crucial for heart, lung, and kidney health, growth, and immune function. Vitamin A also helps protect the eyes, it is a vision vitamin! It is fat-soluble and found in many foods such as meat, poultry, fish, and dairy produce, as well as fruits and vegetables high in beta-carotene like carrots, sweet potato, cantaloupe, and green leafy vegetables. The body naturally converts beta-carotene to Vitamin A.

  2. Vitamin C. Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin and so you need a daily dose. Vitamin C doesn’t just help boost your immune function, it can also aid in the following: maintaining healthy skin, bones, and cartilage, and blood vessels and cell formation. It is an antioxidant that helps to protect your cells against free radicals.

  3. Vitamin E. Vitamin E is a crucial vitamin for heart and brain health. It also serves to protect your skin, vision, and eye health, and aid in preventing inflammation. It is a fat-soluble vitamin.

  4. Iron. Iron is a mineral that plays a vital role in carrying oxygen around the body and oxygenating your red blood cells. Iron can help to support your immune function and energy levels. An iron deficiency can cause anemia which can be highly detrimental to your body and wellbeing; it can cause significant fatigue and weakness. Vitamin C helps to boost iron into your bloodstream.

  5. Magnesium. Magnesium supports your nerve and muscle function and helps to maintain energy. It plays a vital role in over 300 enzyme reactions within the body and so it is not a mineral to discount! However, many people may be magnesium deficient without even realizing it. Magnesium helps in brain health, enhancing sleep and it can also affect your mood low levels of magnesium have been linked to depression.

These 5 vitamins and minerals are just the tip of the iceberg. As mentioned earlier, all nutrients play their role within wellness, and balance truly is key! Pure Bulk aims to help to find that balance a little easier.

PureBulk is innovative and economical- they have built up a loyal customer base worldwide and they ship domestically and internationally- for less! Check out these two great supplements from their extensive range: Melatonin and Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol)

Melatonin

Melatonin is a hormone synthesized and secreted by the pineal gland each night that affects the body's circadian rhythm (sleep pattern).

The pineal gland functions as the timekeeper of the brain, helping manage the sleep-wake cycle. Melatonin production in the body is triggered by darkness and inhibited by light, helping the body manage its natural sleep rhythm.

Discovered in the 1950s as a neurohormone (N-acetyl-5 methoxytryptamine) produced in the brain by the pineal gland from the amino acid tryptophan, melatonin became available as a dietary supplement in 1994.

The precursor of melatonin, tryptophan (L-tryptophan), is an essential amino acid synthesized from proteins during digestion via the action of proteolytic enzymes. During the day it is converted to serotonin (a brain chemical involved with mood) before being converted to melatonin.

Melatonin has also been demonstrated to have powerful antioxidant properties, protecting cells from damage caused by free radical molecules.

  • Pure Bulk’s melatonin is a pure powder with no fillers, additives, or anti-caking agents. (Store in a cool, dry, dark area away from any heat source of direct sunlight!)

  • Free of Sugar, Soy, Dairy, Yeast, Gluten, Corn & Additives.

  • As a dietary supplement, take 1 to 3mg before bedtime, or as directed by a physician. An accurate gram weight scale is recommended.

Melatonin can have some side effects. Pure Bulk notes the following alongside their product:

  • Melatonin should not be taken by people using certain antidepressants. Interaction between melatonin and antidepressants can cause a stroke or heart attack.

  • Melatonin should only be taken before sleep. Vivid dreams and morning grogginess are common melatonin side effects on daily serving sizes greater than 0.5 milligrams.

  • People taking blood thinners, anti-seizure drugs, blood pressure medications, diabetes medications, or hormone replacements should avoid melatonin supplements, as they may interfere with the effectiveness of these medications.

  • This product is not recommended for pregnant or nursing women.

Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol)

Vitamin D3 is otherwise known as cholecalciferol. It is a pro-hormone and essential nutrient produced in the skin. It is a secosteroid hormone that regulates calcium homeostasis and balance within the body.

Vitamin D is best known for its role in the development and maintenance of healthy teeth, bones, and cartilage. Vitamin D helps the body keep bones and teeth strong by improving the absorption of calcium and phosphorus from the small intestine. Vitamin D also affects parathyroid hormone, which regulates bone turnover and the release of calcium from bone.

There are two sources, vitamins D2 and D3.

Vitamin D2, ergocalciferol, is considered a poor choice and is derived from sources such as fortified milk, herring, mackerel, tuna, salmon, sardines, eggs, fortified cereals, and baked goods.

Vitamin D3, cholecalciferol, is the more active and preferable form of vitamin D. It is the most widely known of the vitamin D series. Vitamin D3 is preferred because it has a higher bioavailability and it has more roles in biological activity for its various metabolites or isomers that have biological benefit.

The Sunshine Vitamin!

Vitamin D is known as the "sunshine vitamin" because it can be produced photochemically by the action of sunlight or ultraviolet light from the precursor sterol 7-dehydrocholesterol, which is present in the skin. Vitamin D formed in this manner is called "natural vitamin D" or itamin D3.  Just 15 minutes of daily sun exposure can provide 2,000 to 5,000 IU of Vitamin D.

Vitamin D3 can be obtained from animal products (such as eggs or fish) and fortified foods or can be consumed in the form of fish oil. As a fat-soluble vitamin, it is stored to a certain extent in the body.

During winter, we may not get enough sunshine to adequately offer the body the vitamin D3 it needs, in this case, a supplement can help to rebalance and protect you!

  • PureBulk Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) powder has a concentration of at least 100,000 IU/gram. (IU refers to International Units, a standard of measurement regarding the amount of the vitamin.)

  • Free of Soy, Dairy, Yeast & Gluten.

  • As a dietary supplement, take 10 mg to 50 mg (1/64 tsp) daily, or as directed by a physician. An accurate gram weight scale is recommended.
